New Steel Appeal from Burbidge

In today’s contemporary kitchen, metal accessories play a significant role as eyecatching features. By adding a few metal accessories to a predominantly wooden or foil wrap kitchen the designer can create a concept that looks modern, professional and individual, while still being practical and welcoming.

With demand for such kitchen accessories growing continuously, components manufacturer Burbidge has expanded its range of metal frontals and accessories with the launch of a new competitively priced Stainless Steel collection.

Ben Burbidge, managing director, comments: ‘The new Stainless Steel collection is an addition to our existing Al-Tec range of aluminium frontals and accessories, which has been an enormous success for us since being launched three years ago.

‘Given the fact that mixed materials, such as wood and metal, are being used to an ever greater extent in kitchen designs today, it was a natural next step for us to introduce a well designed Stainless Steel range of accessories that would provide our customers with a lower cost alternative to aluminium.’

Included in the Burbidge Stainless Steel collection are a broad range of stainless steel door and drawer fronts, from 150mm wide doors to the ultra wide 1000mm pan drawers, as well as popular accessories such as sleek square pilasters and a 150mm pull out wirework storage drawer (as pictured).

All Burbidge’s stainless steel and aluminium frontals and accessories are designed to complement the company’s extensive range of contemporary wood and foil wrap kitchens, and look particularly effective when teamed with modern shaker or streamlined slab designs.

For further information about Burbidge’s range of wood, foil wrap and metal frontals and accessories, please visit http://www.burbidge.co.uk or call 024 7667 1600. Burbidge products can also be viewed in realistic room sets in the company’s dedicated showroom at its Coventry manufacturing facility. Redmond Antique Oak by Mereway

Mereway says that its Redmond Antique Oak range captures the purity and craftsmanship of a bygone age, updating pilgrim design principles of simplicity and functionality to suit modern lifestyles.

The traditional, rustic charm of Shaker design is conveyed through beautifully grained and subtly distressed signature Solid Oak doors. The 19mm Antique end panels, combined with sharp radius corners, provide a contemporary twist to this classic door style.

With its warm oak tone and authentic knotty finish, the rustic charm of this timber door is further enhanced through a collection of key feature pieces incorporated into the range designed to accentuate its traditional feel. A Flemish Feature Glass Door has also been created which can be used to provide a delicate contrast with the more robust Solid Oak.

To achieve a fusion of simple beauty with functionality, which is the ethos of Shaker craftsmanship, a collection of feature pieces has been specifically devised to complement the traditional feel of the door. Units include new Base and Wall End Shelves with working drawers, a new style Canopy and a Feature Mantle incorporating hidden storage.

A Cornice and Light Baffle are also available which can be used as separate elements within a kitchen design. However, a design feature enables them to combine, forming a frieze rail which is unique to the Redmond range.

A carefully selected collection of handles has been produced to complement the traditional qualities of the range. Designs include Cast Iron, Hammered Pewter and matching Antique Pewter and Oak handles.

Redmond Oak by Mereway is available from November 2004. Additional information on this and other Collections can be found on the Mereway website at http://www.mereway.co.uk. Alternatively please call 0121 706 7844 for further assistance.

Fantastic Ferrara from BLP

BLP’s new Prodor production of 5 piece wrapped doors has given them opportunities to create door designs in the classic shaker style. The latest design to be released is in the light ferrara oak to match Egger H1334.

The foil in a clean contemporary print is finished with a matt lacquer, which gives the surface a new dimension and creates a realistic wood print. 'I cannot believe how close to real wood this new print actually looks', says Barry Berman, BLP’s Sales and Marketing Director. He continued 'I have worked with veneer all my life and printing technology has advance to such a degree that the foils that are produced today are no longer considered a poor imitation compared to veneers.'

To give the doors a bit of a twist they can also be produced with the centre panel having a horizontal grain to give a contemporary transformation. Shaker style doors are still as popular as ever both in the bedroom and the kitchen, so combining this with the realistic print of the ferrara oak and with the versatility of the grain direction, BLP feels that this door style will be one of its most popular.

New English Revival by Mereway

Mereway has launched its English Revival range, a furniture collection focusing on celebrated design periods or movements in history, and which capture the refinement of yesteryear with the design features of today.

The new Shaker Collection captures the elegant simplicity, beautiful craftsmanship and precise efficiency which are trademarks of this style. The door is presented in its purest form, which can be further augmented using either Oval or Country beading. Shaker is available in three timber finishes; American Maple, Montana Oak and Antique Oak or selected in a plain primed finish to enable a unique painted style.

The Period Collection encompasses a variety of finishes. Regency in American Maple reflects the refinement of this era with glorious, natural warmth. The Georgian collection typifies the idyllic style of an English Country home, with raised and fielded doors recalling the graceful detailing of the era. The Edwardian range relives the style of a gentler time, reflecting the natural purity of design with simple flat centre panels, popular within this period. Both Georgian and Edwardian ranges also offer a primed finish giving a unique natural canvas on which to create a personalised painted effect.

Each kitchen is built to stand the test of time, offering highly specified cabinetry incorporating solid wood, extra rigid cabinets and resourceful internal drawer management solutions. Traditional elements capture the true essence of each period. Working mantles with hidden storage, canopies, open shelf units, dressers and open plate racks provide the intelligent storage solutions essential for contemporary living.

Kitchen designs are perfected with the inclusion of elegant, decorative handles, specially created to complement each style. Choose from antique brass, pewter and nickel ironmongery, bone crackle ceramic or simple plain wooden knobs.

Justin Dubiel, Product Manager, said of the range ‘The inspiration behind the revised English Revival range is to offer the beauty of vintage styling with a modern twist. We are now able to furnish customers with a superior specification product which is superbly concealed behind an elegant facade. This marriage of technology with tradition means that English Revival truly provides the best of both worlds’.

The English Revival Range is available now, with the exception of Shaker Antique Oak which is due for release in January 2005.

Something Light from Lathams

Timber and panels distributor James Latham is now stocking something a little lighter, with its Lightweight-Medium Density Fibreboard (LW-MDF) from Scottish manufacturer, Norbord.

Branded ‘Caberlite’, the product is available across James Latham’s UK distribution network, and has the advantage of being 19% lighter than standard MDF. This means that the board has reduced weight benefits for all sorts of applications, such as mobile homes, caravans, point of sale displays and exhibitions.

The lighter weight of the product means that Caberlite is easy to handle and easy to machine. With a consistent high quality surface, the board also meets the usual James Latham mission to supply products sourced from sustainably managed forests, as it is FSC-certified.

Chris Sutton, group panel products director for James Latham, says, ‘Norbord has produced this product to meet customer demands for a lighter MDF product, so I can see that Caberlite will be extremely popular with our customer-base, due to its advantages of use for the shopfitting and exhibitions industry.’

Caberlite is available in 2440 x 1220 and 3050 x 1220 and in 12mm, 15mm and 18mm sizes.

Stoneham - Difference in the Detail

As a fine English kitchen maker Stoneham may be a 5th generation family concern in its 140th year, but says it still prides itself in setting trends and not following them.

‘So, typically, Stoneham designers are encouraged never to take anything at face value, to look at detail and then offer something different ... and better.’ Says the company.

Two examples spring to mind - the traditional wicker basket storage units still remain highly popular but tend to be restricted to the more country or farmhouse deigns. Stoneham recognises the practicality of this storage for fresh produce etc but decided to apply it to a more contemporary style. So wicker has been replaced with a high-tech stainless steel mesh inspired by the latest automotive grill designs.

The stainless steel works well with modern light hardwood frames and allows designers to pick up on other surfaces and colours in the rest of the kitchen. It is also a practical surface to clean and maintain.

This use of stainless steel or aluminium in certain cases then got Stoneham designers to look inside cabinets where its inclusion could solve problems and they immediately hit upon including a fitted metal tray to the bottom of under-sink units where leakages have traditionally ended up causing damage to unit bases and all sorts of other problems.

Turn to the Smartest Corner Solution with PWS

PWS has enhanced the base turnmotion range with the introduction of a matching door fascia to suit the majority of Second Nature ranges. This new door size 688 x445mm immediately opens up the planning and design appeal of the turnmotion product, as the unit is no longer limited to metallic fascias. A totally streamlined look can now be achieved, opening up the design possibilities and maximising the potential for this unit. At last, with a matching door option, a turnmotion can be mixed and matched across the majority of door ranges, bringing this modern storage solution into more traditional collections, such as Croft and Eden.

Comments Stuart Clarkson, Design Manager at PWS, ‘It’s no surprise that storage solutions are becoming incredibly important in kitchen planning, primarily due to the increased demands being placed on an often-decreasing amount of space. Therefore the corner is an area of storage opportunity, but has traditionally created problems for the designer. So, with this in mind, we are very excited by the enhancement to the turnmotion range. The turnmotion is a very clever space saving solution but was only available in a curved stainless steel or ribbed aluminium door with the need for an elliptical top on the worksurface. We can now offer the consumer the option of a turnmotion with whatever style of door they choose, and with a more streamlined worksurface to boot. We think this will be a very positive move for our customers as it offers a really simple and practical solution, without comprising aesthetics; with the clean lines it actually serves to enhance the look of the overall interior’.

The turnmotion product makes use of dead corner space, allowing full access to the area as the unit revolves a full 360 degrees. The fascia is simply pushed in and the unit rotates allowing instant and easy access to the shelves inside.

Orama’s Ardesco Worksurfaces Blend Modernity with Timeless English Design

With its new Ardesco range, Orama, the independent manufacturer of worksurfaces and associated decorative products, says it is adding a touch of style and modernity to traditional home-grown design. 'By enhancing bespoke kitchen furniture with a carefully chosen Ardesco laminate, the English and Country style is a hallmark of traditional British design.'

The ‘English cottage’ kitchen exhales warmth and comfort. This distinctive style evokes a timeless sense of class and refinement. Worksurfaces from Orama’s Ardesco collection enhance these design principles with an offer spanning a choice of natural patterns, colours and impressions.

The Ardesco metro beige silk laminate is particularly effective in creating a modern warm and homely environment. The worksurface blends with traditional oak doors and its physical properties are smooth, rich and sensual.
