Egger All Round

Due to a fantastic response for the ‘Kaleidoscope’ range of Melamine Face Chipboard, where sales have been growing month by month since its introduction earlier this year, the James Latham depots are now able to supply the laminates and edgings from this range.

The ‘Kaleidoscope’ concept enables customers to manufacture a colour-coordinated range of products, mixing melamine with laminate for kitchen, shopfitting and furniture applications, and is being supplied from James Latham at Thurrock, Hemel Hempstead, Yate, Wigston, Ossett, Eastleigh and Purfleet.

Chris Sutton, panel products director at James Latham, says, ‘Customers can now benefit from the fact that our depots not only have an increased range of ‘Kaleidoscope’ products available, ex-stock, supplied in manageable quantities at very competitive product prices.’

He continues, ‘We will initially be stocking up to 27 ‘Kaleidoscope’ patterns in laminate, with new decors to be added throughout the year as the demand for them increases.’

James Latham continues to add to its extensive range of panel products and high quality hardwoods, softwoods and timber flooring products.

Space Saving Storage Solutions by Mereway

Mereway produces a range of accessories which can be used to manage storage in any kitchen, whether the available space is plentiful or restricted.

The soon-to-be-released Sink Base Drawer uses the space which is often lost underneath the sink. The cut-out design in the drawer interior houses plumbing and waste disposal systems, increasing the overall storage capacity for ancilliary items such as cleaning materials. Effective organisation can be implemented throughout the kitchen with the use of additional Wide Style Drawers, which can be found in Mereway ranges such as the Linear Collection. These provide the encasement for various personal storage solutions and accessories, including essential Cutlery and Pan Drawer Management Systems.

The Pull-Out Larder Unit (shown here in the Monza Hi-Gloss White finish) is a design concept which uses SoftStopp damping. This technology is fully integrated and completely invisible. By cushioning the closing action of the pull-out, slowing it just before the end position, this ensures even the most heavily stocked unit will gently glide shut. The interior comprises of one fixed shelf and 6 adjustable wire baskets which are attached to two pull-out doors, enabling easy accessibility and effective storage for large volumes of items.

Mereway also produces a range of corner units which fully utilise this often wasted space. The Eclipse Curved Corner Wall Unit and High-Line Curved Mondo Carousel unit are both attractive units which fully exploit unused corner areas. A hardwood beech chopping board is built into the Carousel system which provides extra functionality.

Wicker Storage baskets provide a ‘rustic’ feel to any kitchen design and are a good way to store vegetables, keeping them fresh by allowing them to ‘breathe’. For a more contemporary look, concealed vegetable basket bases are available in all current Mereway range finishes.

Orama's Profile 4 Worksurfaces Feature New Square Edge

Orama, the independent manufacturer of worksurfaces and associated decorative products, says that it has accomplished the ultimate in modern design by bringing the natural look back into the kitchen with its Profile 4 'square edge' worksurfaces. Part of Orama's Ardesco range, Profile 4 combines contemporary design with the most advanced materials, complementing any modern kitchen. The product is called Profile 4 because it has a sharp 4mm profile edge.

Profile 4 from the Ardesco range is a new innovation for laminate worksurfaces. With a tight profile edge, it gives the appearance of more natural materials. Compared with conventional laminates, it has a definite square leading edge.
With its tight radius edge, Orama says that Profile 4 provides a new benchmark in worksurface design. The collection is resilient and practical for use in the kitchen and is obtainable in silk, scuff-resistant gloss and textured finishes.

Orama's Profile 4 edge is available in all laminate colour finishes from the Ardesco range, as well as in the composite materials. The 4mm squarer and crisper profile can be specified for 38 mm worksurfaces giving them a more realistic and natural finish.

Peter Holt, sales and marketing director, Orama, comments: ‘Motivation plus inspiration equals innovation, this is what Orama has achieved with the Profile 4 worksurfaces. Our desire to bring the natural look back to the kitchen was the driving force behind the introduction of Profile 4. Profile 4 delivers luxury looks to customers at laminate prices.’

Orama offers high quality durable decorative panels and worksurfaces. Established for many years, Orama holds ISO 9001 certification and the Furniture Industry Research Association Gold Award for product performance. New Worktops to Watch from Four Seasons

Four Seasons has introduced a completely new collection of quality worktops in a variety of the latest fashionable finishes and colours for contemporary kitchens.

The existing range has been updated to complement and reflect changing trends in door designs, as well as to offer retailers and consumers a wider choice when putting the finishing touches to kitchens.

The resulting collection features a total of 25 different worktop designs. These include granite and marble-effect finishes and a range of block wood effect laminates in maples, beech and warm cherry together with the darker, mahogany inspired Wenge work surface.

For those who are looking for something a bit different, Four Seasons has also included a number of very contemporary finishes. Cracked Bottle Glass, Brushed Steel and the concrete inspired Cement Grey worktops all add interest and versatility to the collection.

Eight of the worktop designs are available with high gloss finishes but all, with the exception of the Bottle Glass worktop, are available in a matt alternative. Coordinating splash backs are also available in 10 of the best selling worktop designs.

For a really modern look, 40mm stainless steel effect or multiplex beech and cherry edgings are now available to give a square finish and contrast with some of the darker surfaces. The specification of the worktops has also been upgraded, with each now featuring a 10mm bull nose profile in place of the old waterfall edge.

To prevent moisture getting in to the worktops, at the risk of causing bubbling or cracking to the surface, the underside of the bull nose is sealed where the laminate meets the chipboard. Four Seasons has also sealed the back edges of the worktops for extra protection and all worktops in the range now have a paper backing hard wearing underside.

To avoid scratching, especially on gloss surfaces, all Four Seasons worktops are wrapped in a protective film that can be left on right up until the worktop is in place.

For further information about the new Four Seasons worktop collection, call 01942 844267 or visit the website at http://www.bernstein.co.uk

Look Inside

Would a car retailer selling a particular model from a showroom not bother to have the engine or seat options fitted until the customer has made up her or his mind from the brochure? 'Of course not', says G&G Products, 'it would be a disaster. No sale would be made and the dealer would probably never see that customer or any of their friends back again.'

So what is it with so many kitchen studios and retail showrooms up and down the country that when the prospective customer opens the drawer it's either empty or cluttered up with spare brochures, worktop samples or any other spare guff. It's hardly the positive point from which to start a successful sales conversation.

As it happens, the trend is changing. A rapidly increasing number of retailers are either propping their cabinets and drawers with realistic 'stocks' or using the customised inserts from G&G Products to impress and secure that customer.

G&G Products, based near Manchester, is a company producing mainly beech block trays, moulded for collective or highly individual storage of specific gadgets or utensils. They are often depicted in combination with more conventional vacuum formed plastic dividers. But it is the endless permutations that are intriguing.

What is not commonly known is that around 80% of the individual concepts and ideas come from one specialist source - G&G Products. The company has established a design and manufacturing base that has allowed it to develop ideas for individual customers that make for a huge degree of differentiation.

The reasons are obvious when the product is viewed. The wooden trays are generally machined from laminated beech blocks – although any hardwood can be specified. The plastic is vacuum formed to an exceptional finish.

G&G managing director Sam Grinshpan has established a design and production facility with extreme flexibility – from the CAD and graphics to the multi-head 5-axis routers and high-tech throughfeed finishing sanders.

So trays can be produced to size, with specific cut outs to suit individual products and utensils, or more general dividers that compartmentalise the drawer interior.

‘Anything is possible’ says Sam Grinshpan. This statement is backed by a browse through the G&G colour brochure or a visit to the factory showrooms. Cutlery trays are shown in endless combinations alongside dedicated utensil trays and knife racks. These can even be combined with one sliding back over the other. There are intriguing ideas for spices, stainless steel containers, pasta and cereal bottles as well as for crockery and saucepans. The point is that the products from G&G are highly practical but add enormous sales value to the kitchen.

The bedroom and home office interiors markets are equal beneficiaries.

Make the Most of Storage Space

Four Seasons has updated the design of some of its most popular storage solutions, developing new products that maximise space and help to make the kitchen more efficient and pleasant to use for the consumer.

Tambour Unit
The stainless steel tambour units have been redesigned to make them much easier to fit, with one size now fitting both standard and tall wall units so no dedicated tambour housing unit is needed. For added versatility, the tambour unit can also fit neatly onto a standard Four Seasons dresser cabinet.

To add to its consumer appeal, the new tambour unit is now easier to clean and features a Hettich mechanism for a smoother closing action. The unit has been designed to fit any handle in the Four Seasons range, allowing it to be used to complement any kitchen.

Larder Unit
The updated Four Seasons larder units are available in both 300mm and 600mm widths, and use Four Seasons' high quality premier drawerbox system to allow each drawer to hold up to 30kg in weight.

Two standard height drawers are available, including extra deep drawers which are suitable for storing pans or bulky items like boxes or jars. Storage dividers can be placed anywhere in the drawerboxes to make the best use of space, while easy clean driptrays offer greater convenience to the consumer.

Internal Storage
Four Seasons has also developed internal premier drawerboxes that can be used in any size base unit, following research showing that usable space inside a cupboard can be increased by as much as 55% by using three drawers instead of one shelf.

The drawerboxes can be installed in highline or drawerline bases and are suitable for use with 300, 400, 450, 500 and 600mm base units, offering a cost effective and practical alternative to a four drawer pack. Drawer and cutlery dividers are available to complement the drawerboxes.

Four Seasons has a complete range of storage solutions to suit any style or size of kitchen. For further details, call Four Seasons on 01942 844 267.

Franke Corners the Market with New Undermount Range

The Bolero from Franke is the latest addition to the sink manufacturer’s undermount sink range.

The new, ultra modern sink has a tight corner radii resulting in a more geometric shape which complements today’s modern kitchen furniture ranges.

John Swain, product manager for Franke UK said: ‘Undermount sinks are currently enjoying enormous popularity because of the number of people now opting for solid surfaces, such as granite, in their kitchens.

‘The growth of this market has triggered a demand for squarer sinks, such as the Bolero, which enhance the simple, minimalistic style that we are now seeing in the kitchen.’

The Bolero sink is available in three bowl sizes, the half bowl, the two-thirds bowl and the single bowl.

John added: ‘As more and more people are choosing undermount sinks it was essential that the Bolero was available in a range of configurations, giving customers a greater degree of flexibility in the design of their sink area.’

Anthracite is the New Black from The Gallery

The Gallery's latest design is Jasper Anthracite, a contemporary kitchen which combines the darkest anthracite and silver in a subtle horizontal linear pattern to create a 'glamourous sophisticated look'.

A simple slab door coupled with aluminium effect handles and metallic accessories makes Jasper a suitable option for apartment living and open plan spaces.

The Gallery's colour expert Design Manager Amanda Watson comments: 'Designing with black can be a difficult balancing act, particularly in a small space. Jasper Anthracite has all the theatrical impact of a black kitchen but, the reflective metallic elements make for a much softer over all look, particularly when the range is used with metallic-framed glazed feature units and a light airy decorating scheme.'

As with all Gallery kitchens, Jasper was created to offer the best in function as well as design and offers a choice of storage units, including wide pan drawers which help to create a linear look and provide lots of practical storage.

Available through a wide network of selected retailers, The Gallery is a comprehensive collection of fitted kitchen styles from Symphony, the UK's largest privately owned supplier of fitted furniture. The company has more than 30 years experience and works closely with retailers, developers and homebuyers to design and build great fitted furniture.

Making Waves with PWS’ Caprio

The Caprio range from PWS has been extended with a selection of curved fascias. Enhancing the simplicity of the slab cherry door, the curved elements add further design opportunities to this range.

Although still a relative newcomer to the Second Nature door portfolio, Caprio is already scoring highly in the popularity stakes and the gently, sculpted curved fascias bring out the warmth of the cherry veneer with a wide choice of new features available.

1200mm extra-wide ‘s’ shaped drawer fronts offer scope to create a centrepiece, while the ‘s’ shaped door and contoured larder and panels will add a curvaceous feel to any scheme.

The curvy feel is continued through the shaped worksurface and flexible curved plinth, which echo the contours of the doors.

Radius feature ends and a radius corner top section complete the new product line-up adding to the already extensive selection of accessories and feature doors available.

A major attraction of the new additions is that the ‘s’ shaped door and drawers and the curved panel door benefit from registered design status, due to their distinctiveness, adding a unique appeal to this range.

'Black is the New Black...'

Stone Age, the UK supplier of Limestone, Sandstone and Marble has noticed a definite shift in demand, from the lighter coloured stone to the more dramatic dark tones including black.

This has been mirrored in the flooring market as a whole as consumers are favouring a darker more distinctive look.

‘There has been an increasing interest in many of our dark stones, especially for areas such as the kitchen. A lot of our customers are looking for something new and are eager to explore different materials, finishes and colours.

' At Stone Age we endeavour to offer something different and are constantly sourcing stones in innovative finishes, so that we are able to offer something different to our customers’. comments Jo O'Grady, Director, Stone Age.

Expressive Fine Woods Extend the Poggenpohl Palette

As part of the new +Integration® range, Poggenpohl is presenting new wood finishes in the form of swiss peartree, walnut and zebrano-structure whose lively grain patterns bring an enrichment to the Poggenpohl offering.

'At Poggenpohl, the expressive veneers of swiss peartree, walnut and zebrano-structure are all unique and perfectly crafted. Produced to order from drawings, each kitchen is ensured consistent veneer patterning.' says the company.

An exceptionally warm hue is characteristic of swiss peartree, originally a native of Europe. The elegant and superior-grade timber makes a good choice for exclusive veneers. Swiss peartree is distinguished in particular by its density and grain fineness. In the +Integration® range, Poggenpohl uses swiss peartree with a pale pink-coloured perimeter zone and dark red to reddish brown core.

With satin walnut veneer, Poggenpohl brings contrasts to the design of kitchen fronts. Walnut is one of the most valuable and coveted timbers in existence and is used for making furniture, tools and art objects. Indigenous to the United States, walnut is an exceptionally durable timber with natural veining that provides expressive veneer patterns. The light, almost structureless marginal zone of the walnut veneer has a whitish yellow to bright red colour hue that changes abruptly to a dark core with its highly pronounced structure and rich colour spectrum that ranges from a pale greyish mauve to very dark brown. Only old trees develop this striking and decorative marking differing in colour and structure from tree to tree.

Characteristic of zebrano-structure, an industrially produced wood, are its unique and uniform lines. Dark, prominent stripes run through the light brown wood to create an expressive look and exotic feel. Produced exclusively to order, the fronts in zebrano-structure feature either horizontal or vertical lines, just as the client prefers.

In Poggenpohl's new +Integration® range, the lively veining of the exquisite Swiss pearwood, walnut and zebrano-structure timbers produce exciting contrasts with the hi-tech materials of glass, aluminium and acrylic.

SieMatic SC61 is 'Both Practical and Elegant'

The SieMatic SC61 design is characterised by its emphasis on practicality, the complete lack of superfluous detail, and its departure from the conventional conception of the kitchen being nothing more than a 'work place'.

‘The result is a new type of kitchen, which is both practical and elegant. The design incorporates clean, organic surfaces and lines, with no superfluous decorative elements or designs. It is a style with a completely new character. Completing the organic feel of the kitchen is the StoneDesign worksurface.’ says the company.

Worktops of natural stone have a timeless beauty and offer a kitchen incomparable elegance. However, their solid construction and heavy weight can make processing, transport and installation complicated and costly, limiting their design possibilities.

StoneDesign worktops consist of a granite, slate or limestone surface on a 1cm thick bed of lightweight material. 'Their visual appeal is similarly attractive and refined as solid stone slabs, but with advantages solid stone doesn't have. Stone Design makes it easier to manufacture whole lengths or areas of worktop without gaps or joints that would otherwise be extremely difficult to handle, and they can be easily cut and processed on site and fitted exactly in place. This design enables new design possibilities, such as 8cm thick worktops.' says the company.

Moores Ergonomic Range

Moores has launched a new Ergonomic range of kitchens primarily aimed at the elderly. The range was officially launched at the CIH Annual Exhibition at Harrogate in June.

James Craig (Furniture Designer) said 'Moores has always been a product innovator, our new Ergonomic range is the latest example of this innovation. The demographic changes in the UK and the growth of the over 60s market have led to approximately one third of all social housing residents falling into the elderly category, as well as this an increasing number of new homes being built are retirement homes. Our Ergonomic range is specifically designed to meet the varied needs of this market segment concentrating on five main areas, namely - mobility, reach, lifting, storage and lighting – five key elements when designing a kitchen for the elderly'.

The design of the Ergonomic range was a collaboration between experts in furniture design, Occupation Therapy and component providers, and through the process we have received customer feedback and opinion. The entire range has been designed with the end user in mind taking into consideration the varied limitations they may have.

The range is available to the social housing and private housing markets. With the increasing legislation in this area and the ageing population of the UK Moores believe the Ergonomic range of kitchens will be of interest to all it’s customers.

Exotic Wenge for PWS’ Worksurface Collection

With timber worksurfaces becoming the design staple of many kitchens, PWS has added the exotic wenge species to its Second Nature worksurface collection.

Capturing the trend for contrast in the kitchen, wenge is perfect for the dark-light combinations with doors and the material mix approach. This deeply luxurious and dark timber is in-tune with emerging colour directions and offers great scope to the designer to create a dramatic statement. Wenge is available in both 3m and 4m lengths, with a selection of width options, all in a 40mm thickness.

Comments Philip Eeles, Worksurfaces Business Manager at PWS, ‘we carefully track trends and colour directions ensuring our worksurface portfolio offers the designer an inspirational palette of versatile materials and colourways. In keeping with this thinking, the timber collection now offers richer woodgrain structures of cherry, walnut and wenge. With the design ethos of material mix set to stay, our other key worksurface materials of granite, composite stone and stainless steel offer limitless combinations and design opportunities’.

The PWS timber worksurface range now includes 11 species offering an extensive choice, encompassing lighter hues of maple and birch, mid-tones of beech and iroko, with the richness of walnut or wenge adding contrast to any scheme. PWS has a lead-time on bespoke timber of just 6 working days from order to delivery.
