Monochrome Magic from Franke

The new MTK 611 single bowl and MTK 651 one-and-a-half bowl sinks from Franke are perfect for kitchen designs where a modern take on the traditional ceramic butler sink is required. The two 1000mm-wide ceramic sinks, from the popular Mythos range, are designed to emulate the classic look while incorporating today's technology.

In either white or sleek black ceramic, they offer an edge in a contemporary kitchen while complementing a traditional style perfectly too. Against granite or composite worktops, the black will answer the new demand for an alternative to stainless steel that will not rust, fade or discolour, as black and part-black appliances grow in popularity.

Manufactured from kiln-fired porcelain in high-tech firing facilities, the robust durability of the MTK 611 and MTK 651 ceramic sinks, together with the smooth high gloss finish, provides a ceramic solution with depth and density. Both models are designed to fit a 600mm cabinet and are available with the popular Franke Mythos MTX geometric monobloc mixer tap.

All Franke sinks come with a 25 year manufacturing guarantee as standard and are designed to offer outstanding performance.

Curves for the Compact Kitchen

Curved units look fabulous but many of the options need a large interior for maximum impact. However, when space is at a premium PWS says that its small curved doors are the answer to bring shape into the kitchen.

The 715x300mm curved door creates a unit with a 190mm radius and for added versatility the door can be used either on a wall end or base unit. Alternatively place one door above another to design an interesting feature which if mixed with open shelving creates a statement piece of furniture. This type of arrangement is perfect for kitchens which also double up as a living area, keeping the look streamlined and flowing between the cooking and relaxation zones.

Comments Andrew Langford, Marketing Manager at PWS, 'A couple of years ago curves were the exception rather than the rule in kitchen design, however it's fair to say that contoured units are now very much in the design lexicon of every kitchen retailer worth his or her salt. PWS is very much in tune with this trend and curved fascias are now standard features in the majority of our kitchen ranges.'

The new small curved door has been introduced into PWS' Second Nature slab ranges, including the Avant family, Fresco and American Walnut. It is also available in many of the timber ranges and the latest in-frame collection.

Waste Not, Want Not

To meet the growing demand for waste disposal units in the UK, Franke has launched four new models, all with direct current motors with high torque for effortless use.

Food waste represents up to 35% of the total amount of household waste in the UK. As dustbin collection is reduced nationwide to encourage recycling, so the true benefits of waste disposal units can be presented to the ecologically-concerned customer.

Eco-savvy kitchen designers will be aware that the installation of a waste disposal unit greatly relieves the pressure on the UK's landfill sites. Furthermore, the waste that has been finely ground in a disposal unit is recycled into agricultural fertiliser - and used to nourish Britain's soil.

'While composting is a good recycling solution, most organic food waste is not suitable for the garden, which makes the disposal of food waste a growing problem for many homeowners - especially in the summer months when infrequently emptied bins can attract rodents and encourage bacteria,' explains John Swain, product manager at Franke UK.

'This is why it is becoming increasingly important for designers to include a waste disposal unit when working on a new kitchen. Starting from as little as £174, the unit means that a customer can help the environment as well as improve their own lifestyle.'

Easy to install and boasting high quality construction, including stainless steel grinding mechanisms, each model is designed to last.

Get Bowled Over with the Zeta 100 from Carron Phoenix

With a fresh modern design and capacious bowl size, the Zeta 100 stainless steel sink from Carron Phoenix offers a versatile kitchen sink for any kitchen setting. Measuring a roomy 450 x 420 x 180mm deep, the bowl size is the largest which can be fitted into a 600mm cabinet.

Large enough to accommodate bulky items like oven inserts, roasting tins and baking trays, the Zeta 100 is one of four models in the Zeta stainless steel range. The Zeta 100 is offered in a choice of two stainless steel finishes - polished or textured linen - offering a different tactile feel and look.

Another modern style plus for Zeta is the low profile perimeter of the sink design. This means that the sink sits just 4mm off the worksurface. Yet Zeta, as an inset sink, is installed with a single cut-out reducing both time and installation costs.

The workable styles of the Zeta are complemented by a range of accessories including a chopping board sourced from sustainable, managed forests; and a stainless steel wire basket. All models within the Zeta range are backed by a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects.

New Burbidge Doors are a Glass Act

The epitome of contemporary kitchen fashion, glass is fast becoming a must-have in kitchen designs of today. The use of glass in kitchens, be it tiles, tables, lighting or feature doors, not only offers eye-catching appeal, it also helps create the feeling of light and space that’s so fundamental to modern design, and so popular with  consumers.

Recognising this growing trend, Burbidge has introduced two glass frontals.  Unlike most traditional glass kitchen frontals which usually comprise a glass panel inset into a frame, these two new doors are flat fronted and frameless, and will add dramatic impact to any kitchen design.  Two options are available – a metallic grey glass door and a white semi-opaque glass door. Both have been designed to complement any one of Burbidge’s extensive range of contemporary kitchen designs.

Available in a wide variety of sizes, from 355 x 495mm to 355 x 995mm, to provide the modern horizontally orientated wall unit style or tall base unit drawers, as well as a 720 x 495mm for full height cabinets. These new glass doors can be teamed with a wide variety of Burbidge handles including the Aluminium Effect Bar Handle as pictured.

Ben Burbidge, managing director comments: 'With virtually every kitchen design we introduce, we create one or two glass feature doors to match that specific design.  However, with these two new doors we wanted to create feature doors that could suit any of our contemporary kitchens.  The grey metallic frontals will look particularly stunning when combined with any flat fronted, slab style kitchen design, while the white semi-opaque glass doors, which have a ‘faux’ frame effect will add a contemporary edge to any kitchen featuring framed frontals.'

Burbidge a kitchen frontals and accessories manufacturer. The company’s products can be viewed in realistic rooms sets in its showroom in Coventry. Please call 024 7667 1600 or visit http://www.burbidge.co.uk for further information.

PWS has recently revamped its collection with a mix of shapes, sizes and materials. With the growing demands on space, the new Quick range proves that small really can be beautiful as it has been designed with compact kitchens in mind. Getting a Handle on Style

While many manufacturers claim to offer seamless handlefree furniture, often the reality is merely an inset handle that gives the illusion of handlefree design but can be hard to grip for those with special needs. As part of its ongoing bid to support inclusive design with access for all, William Ball is now offering 100% handlefree activation on any of its furniture ranges.

Perfect for achieving a truly streamlined kitchen, William Ball's handlefree units offer push-touch activation that can be easily opened using an elbow or knee - making it ideal for those with limited grip, and stylish for all. Achieved via high quality mechanisms, the push-touch doors are guaranteed for five years and are also easy to fit, keeping life simple for installers.

William Ball furniture has been awarded the FIRA (Furniture Industry Research Association) Gold Award for excellence, which is a nationally recognised endorsement for quality and workmanship.

Vamp it with Pronorm's GLS Black Glass Doors

With colour being so now, designers can turn up the volume to full-on glamour with Pronorm's GLS glass doors in black.

The 20mm doors are available in a choice of sizes from standard wall units to full size tall housings. The latter are on a cantilever door mechanism allowing them to glide open and shut, elegantly and silently.
