Matki's Guide to Buying a Shower

Following the recent changes in the role of the bathroom and the increase in the number of ensuites, a huge demand has emerged amongst homeowners for high quality fittings within the bathroom. With many showering options now available, Matki, the designer and manufacturer of quality showering products, has compiled a comprehensive guide to choosing a shower.

• Decide on the space and position of the shower in order to use the largest shower surround possible. Matki recommends the minimum space required to fit a good shower is 760mm x 760mm, but the larger the better.

• Ensure there is enough room for the shower door to open out without obstruction. Consider pivot, in-fold or in-swing doors, which are ideal for small spaces. For larger showers a sliding door is a good choice.

• Check the pressure requirement for the shower selected. Multifunctional shower heads often require minimum one bar pressure to work well and therefore may require a pump. If a combination boiler is in place, a pump cannot be added. Using a handset and, say, body jets at the same time will require more pressure.

• Make sure the shower door and enclosure can fit the height of the room, especially as the shower tray may need to be raised above the floor to create a fall for the waste pipe.

• Go for solid shower trays such as acrylic capped or cast stone.

• If the room has no window, make sure a satisfactory extractor fan is in place to remove excess moisture in the air. Consider an extractor with a humidistat as they automatically turn on/off depending on the amount of moisture in the room.

• Matki shower doors now come with the option of Glass Guard protection that makes the glass easier to keep clean against limescale and dirt deposits.

• The hot water cylinder must store adequate litres. Some showers have high flow rates which means if a small tank is in place hot water will quickly run out.

• Good lighting is essential if a shower is to be installed into a recess between two walls or a cupboard.

Trade Secrets

This October, Ideal Bathrooms has launched Trade Secrets, a new quarterly communication which will be mailed to all customers.

Trade Secrets is a newsletter crammed full of special offers, display deals and new products for all Ideal Bathrooms' customers. It is being sent out with the latest yellow Price Guide and is an extension of Ideal Bathrooms' policy of more frequent communication to its customer base.

Communication is critical to Ideal Bathrooms' success and Trade Secrets' aim is to create increased awareness of new products and the latest special offers and promotions.

Ideal Bathrooms says that it has developed the art of distribution and ‘prides itself on its friendly, fast and efficient service and its excellent prices. Ideal Bathrooms has the most comprehensive and most popular Price Guide in the business, with most bathroom showrooms in the UK reaching for the 'Yellow Book' in times of need.’

Ideal Bathrooms has added an extra four sales people to the team this year extending its face-to-face contact philosophy to improve business. This is in contrast to many other businesses, which are cutting back on face-to-face sales in favour of telephone sales. Ideal Bathrooms believes that although telephone sales can be useful for certain purposes, nothing can beat face-to-face contact to build up good business relationships.

Ideal Bathrooms says that it continues its excellent performance trajectory and with a superb service ethos and efficient communications, sales have increased despite tough market conditions. ‘BSIRA recently reported a 6% decline in industry shower sales which is not reflected in the increased sales shown at Ideal Bathrooms. With the company’s sales up in a declining market, Ideal Bathrooms market share is increasing, confirming that its policies are the right ones for its customers.’

New Solaris Brochure Launched

The Solaris range of glass radiators comes in from the cold with a new consumer brochure giving full details of the colours and sizes of radiator available, as well as technical information as to how they operate.

Solaris glass radiators are as attractive as they are efficient. Available in a standard range of eight colours, their power output ranges from 450 Watts to 1500 Watts.

The front of each radiator is a single sheet of enamelled safety glass, and the slimline design means that they take up very little space, protruding just 85mm out from the wall. Glass naturally accumulates heat so it is an ideal material for radiators. Equally suitable as the main heating source or for additional heating when required, Solaris radiators are distributed in the UK by Warm Corner of Doncaster.

The new brochure shows the radiators at work throughout the home in a variety of lifestyle settings including kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms. A two-page section in the brochure gives details of the sophisticated control systems available – such as zone programming for energy efficiency and remote switching by telephone for convenience – and explains how the OHDS (Optimal Heating Distribution System) glass used in the construction of each radiator helps to provide even temperatures from floor to ceiling.

The new Solaris brochure is available direct from Warm Corner. It can be requested via the Warm Corner website (http://www.warmcorner.co.uk), where a PDF version can also be downloaded, or by calling the company on: 01302 757040
