Villeroy & Boch - Light Tile Facilitates Creative Lighting Designs for Walls and Floors

Light is something special because it simultaneously generates emotive and functional impacts; light generates atmosphere and also provides enhanced guidance and safety. Villeroy & Boch has dealt with these ideas, consolidating light and tiles into a symbiosis. The Light Tile lighting concept features state-of-the-art light emitting diodes (LEDs) integrated into high-quality wall and floor tiles. This turns the tiles themselves into expressive light sources that can be used as exclusive design elements or as a guidance system to show the way both for public and private premises.

Equipped with leading-edge LED technology
The Light Tile lighting concept is based on LED technology. An LED – a light emitting diode – is an electronic component that has compelling benefits compared with other sources of light, such as high luminance, particularly low energy consumption and very low heat build-up. In addition, LEDs have a long lifetime; in the Light Tile range, about 100,000 hours, equivalent to more than eleven years of operation without replacement. Light Tile elements are also dust and water-proof (according to DIN standard IP 67) with an extremely flat installation thickness of only 7 mm and extremely safe thanks to operation at 12 V protective low voltage. The lighting elements available in white, blue and amber are fitted into a wear-resistant, coated stainless-steel frame already integrated into the tiles. Sets are available with 1, 2, 4, 8 and 20 LEDs.

Available for many current tile ranges
The following 13 Villeroy & Boch tile ranges – starting from a side length of 20 cm – can currently be equipped with the Light Tile lighting concept: Athos, Bernina, Cardesio, Creative System New, Electra, Granifloor, Grando, Marmorino Naturale, Pro Architectura, Septfontaines, White Classic as well as the two new ranges Calcara and Spectrum. On square tiles, the 38 mm lighting element is centred, and on rectangular tiles one or two lighting elements can be positioned along the central axis.

Easy and safe to install
Light Tile is easy and safe to install and can be done without having to call an electrician. Detailed assembly instructions provide step-by-step guidance for installation. Each Light Tile element consists of a drilled tile and the relevant lighting element, Other equipment necessary: transformer, LED chain, cable duct and, if necessary, extension cord and T-splitter.

Numerous aesthetic and functional applications
The innovative Light Tile concept provides new aesthetic and functional applications involving tiles and light, both in private and public environments. Decorative light designs on walls and floors, in bathrooms, kitchens and living rooms lend themselves to accomplishing new creative accentuations. Integrated lighting elements in tiled steps or podiums provide enhanced orientation and safety. The Light Tile range therefore represents an interesting alternative both for private customers along with planners and architects on the lookout for appropriate, high-quality solutions for their modern and innovative ideas.

Pilkington's Launches its Biggest-Ever New Product - Mura

Following the success of its Strata large-format bathroom wall and floor tile range, the Pilkington's Tiles Group has launched the biggest ceramic tile it has ever manufactured - Mura.

Continuing to meet the trend for larger bathroom tiles, the Mura 400x250mm range offers six new and contemporary colours across two sub ranges - Stucco and Concrete.

Stucco features a satin glaze combined with a textured print, which provides sweeping gloss highlights across the tile, while Concrete features matt glazes over a finely textured, concrete-effect finish.

Both the Stucco and Concrete sub ranges include a natural white - Linen for Stucco and Mica for Concrete. Other Stucco colours are Cotton - a warm grey, and Canvas - a smooth Limestone. Other Concrete colours are Silver - a contemporary grey, Copper - a rich chocolate, and Lead - a striking charcoal.

Silver, Copper and Lead reflect the continuing demand within ceramics and home furnishings for dramatic sleek browns and deeper, richer shades as high-fashion contrasts to the natural, minimalist lighter shades popular in interior design.
In addition, two of the 400x250mm tiles feature another first for the group - offset apertures cut into the tiles for added high design options. Apertures can be filled with a choice of four highly-fashionable and decorative tile insert strips created from natural materials such as slate, glass, stone and metal. A mosaic option is available as an alternative and ultra-modern insert.

Pilkington's is confident the Launch of Mura, which is manufactured at its Manchester factory, will at least match the success of Strata which jumped into the group's Top 10 products by sales within its first year. Customers requiring additional information or literature should ring the direct sales hotline on 0845 241 2121.

Pilkington’s Tiles has launched a new product into the Directions range. The addition to the collection of 100x100mm tiles is a new range of 200x100mm ‘brick’ size tiles. The ‘brick’ embraces all the characteristics of the original directions range including a natural stone-look texture, subtle colour palette; two glazes options and a choice of decoration choices. Available in four colour choices across the glaze options of ‘Essential’ and ‘Rustic’, Directions ‘bricks’ co-ordinate with today’s interior design schemes and can be teamed with glass, wood and metallic accessories.

(L-R) Directions Almond and ShellChalk, new from Pilkington Tiles

As the 200x100mm ‘brick’ size becomes increasingly popular within the UK ceramic market, due to the influence of television programmes and home interest magazines, the demand for natural looking product in this particular size option has soared. The enduring trend for contemporary and minimalist interior design is still apparent in the UK market favouring this ceramic statement for both kitchen and bathroom usage.

The colour choice is simple and natural; available in Ivory, Almond, Chalk and Shell Directions 200x100mm essentially offer both White and Cream options in both glazes.

The two glaze options; ‘Rustic’ and ‘Essential’ offer two different glazes and the six subtly different surface textures create a finish that, if mixed at random looks totally natural. Choose from the soft, waxy glaze of ‘Essential’ Almond and Ivory or ‘Rustic’ – a matt glaze with a hint of mineralised sparkle in Chalk or Shell.

Directions ‘bricks’ can be used as an all over field tile in horizontal or vertical ‘brick bond’ fashion or to create an imaginative feature design. To further enhance the design possibilities they can be mixed with 100x100mm and the decorative choices of ‘mosaic’ and ‘fossil’ for maximum versatility and striking results.

Colour-Enhanced UltraGrout FF

UltraGrout FF, the premium flexible grout part of the Ultra range of tile adhesives and grouts manufactured by the Tamworth based Instarmac Group plc, now comes in a range of four colours.

In addition to conventional grey, three new colours of anthracite, limestone and sandstone, have recently been added.

The polymer-modified, flexible floor (FF) grout is specially designed to accommodate wide joint widths of up to 20mm and as such, is the perfect accompaniment to Instarmac's UltraFlex TBP, UltraProFlex SP, UltraFlex 2P and UltraStone Fix floor tile adhesives.

Since these adhesives possess flexural capacity and have been specifically formulated for situations where movement or vibration is likely, a compatible grout is essential. In addition, they are well suited to bonding tiles such as natural stone and slate, both of which need a grout with higher performance and a wider joint capability. Their use eliminates the need for any other additives to be mixed with the grout.

In its own right, UltraGrout FF provides a virtually impermeable finish, which is important when tiling on to highly trafficked or constantly wet areas. It is also based upon anti fungal technology and eradicates the likelihood of mould or fungi build up.

UltraGrout FF is supplied in 5kg and 10kg sizes. It has an 'open time' of 15 minutes (dependant upon temperature and substrate) and sets within 24 hours.
