KBB 2010 PREVIEW

Astro Lighting: Stand No. D13

Astro Lighting to exhibit for the first time at kbb Birmingham

With a reputation for innovative designs, high quality manufacture and reliable performance, Bathroom lighting specialist, Astro, makes products for both interior and exterior use, but specialises in IP44-rated bathroom lighting. The industry-renowned KBB exhibition, therefore, presents the ideal opportunity to unveil the latest innovations for 2010.

Premieres include Tokai, (pictured right) a ceiling-mounted spotlight styled in an attractive mix of polished chrome and glass. IP44 approved, it can be dimmed as desired, and is available as a single spotlight, a triple spotlight on a circular base, or a three-spot bar. The elegant, architectural lines of Tokai are distinctive yet also able to blend effortlessly into any modern bathroom design.

Several new introductions will perfectly complement the existing bathroom design trend for angular or square brassware. Kashima, (pictured left) a case in point, is a wall-mounted light from Astro with striking, sleek lines ideal for fitting above the bathroom mirror to cast a warm glow down onto the user. Square edges and flat highly polished chrome surfaces give this light a contemporary feel that also brings a sense of luxury into any bathroom. The Taketa ceiling light also has strong, square lines with a matching wall light for a co-ordinated look and the sophisticated Broni wall light is available with a square glass shade to continue the theme.

Many more new designs will be unveiled at the show. In fact, visitors will be treated to a broad display of product debuts from across the Astro bathroom lighting portfolio including wall lights, spotlights, down lights, ceiling lights, bathroom mirrors and LED magnifying mirrors.

To whet the appetite these will include an illuminated mirror with jet black glass frame for added drama, high-powered LED lights for recessing at skirting height to create ambient effects, IP44-rated low-voltage spotlights and an ingenious shaver light – the result of two and a half years of product development. Astro believes this product to be unique as it is low-energy and IP44-rated for both the light and the shaver socket.

Increasing focus on glass fittings at Bohle

The Bohle Group, Europe's renowned manufacturer and supplier of products for glass processing and finishing, is greatly expanding its range of bathroom fittings. The Romana, Milano, Atlantica, Fit, Quadrato, Wellness Premium ranges of designer shower door hardware, as well as the Chalet PT door systems are now available from the Bohle global network.

Bohle has become a major distributor world-wide for KL-megla products, known for their easy installation, top quality and creative design. The fittings are made from solid brass and supplied with highest quality finishes - from chrome to gold plated. The Atlantica, Quadrato and Wellness Premium series also feature a patented ‘by-pass system', whose continuous sealing strip prevents water egress and allows virtually leak-proof showering.
Furthermore, the design of the KL-megla systems is so versatile that they provide the ideal solution for virtually any application.

In addition to a wider range of hardware, Bohle is also offering its customers a new, convenient, simple software package. The ‘e-design' programme, which makes for effortless design and planning with KL-megla fittings in all types of applications, is now available in a special, dedicated Bohle version.

In addition to door hinges Bohle is also reviewing its range of shower hardware and fittings, a range that has grown rapidly in the past few years.

"In order to provide a better overview for our customers, we have categorised our shower door hinges under the headings ´Premium´, ´Excellent´ and ´Select´ and, with the chapter ´Fittings for Bathrooms´, we have provided a separate section for them in our new main catalogue“, explains Dave Broxton, Sales & Marketing Director of Bohle.

"The fittings in the ´Premium´ group, for example, are distinguished by especially high quality and comprehensive extras like adjustable zero position or heavier maximum door weights. This category, for the most part, comprises KL-megla fittings, but it also includes the ´Europe´ shower door hinge, developed and produced by Bohle. High quality is always standard for products that Bohle includes in its range.”

Fittings are increasingly developing into a strategically significant business segment at Bohle.

"Our new main catalogue 2010, published this month, impressively substantiates our focus on fittings for glass professionals and we will greatly expand this range in the future, “says Dave. "Over half of the catalogue's nearly 700 pages, which is more comprehensive than ever before - have been devoted entirely to glass fittings."

The 2010 Bohle Glass & Glazier catalogue can be reserved by calling 0800 616151 or by visiting the Bohle stand at KBB 2010 in March.

Geberit: Stand Number B42 Hall 6

Raft of new products set for launch

Leading sanitaryware solutions supplier Geberit will be heading to KBB 2010 armed with a whole raft of new products and innovations ready for launch to the industry.

One of the many highlights of the Geberit stand will be the launch of arguably one of the company’s most innovative products to date, the Monolith.

The main obstacle in converting to the desirable Continental-look of wall-hung sanitaryware is that you need to re-tile or re-plumb a bathroom – the Monolith offers a neat solution to this problem for WC’s. Geberit’s Monolith is a slimline module incorporating a wall-hung frame and an integrated dual flush cistern that can be installed using existing connections and drains. Installation of the entire system is completed in a single operation, with the new wall-hung pan ready for use within just a few hours.

With its slim profile the Monolith can be fitted into almost any bathroom without impinging on space and is ideal for the retro-fit market as it covers any previous wall-fixing marks from previous floor-standing pans and there is no need to alter the soil stack.

Elegantly combining function with form the Monolith is finished in glass and is available in both white and black ensuring it creates a focal point in its own right, while its clear, simple lines and high-quality materials mean that the Monolith will be specified as much for its looks as for its practicality.

“KBB 2010 is the perfect platform for us to showcase our brand new range of products to the industry and we are hopeful of a busy and very successful exhibition,” says Geberit’s Product Manager (Sanitary Systems) Victoria Willis.

Quotatis: Stand No. E23a Hall 19

Generates more sales leads

‘Quotatis is thought to be the largest generator of sales leads through the Internet in Europe and, having celebrated its 10th Anniversary, the most experienced.

Quotatis provides live, high quality sales enquires received from homeowners looking for competitive quotes through any of the hundreds of Quotatis web sites. A homeowner will tell Quotatis, for example, that they wish to have a new kitchen or bathroom installed. Quotatis will pass this information to companies registered with them, according to location and services and products offered, and the homeowner can then choose to take up the enquiry or ignore it. A highly affordable fee is only charged if the enquiry is accepted, following which the contractor can contact the homeowner to submit a quotation.

With more than 36 million Britons now using the Internet on a regular basis, home owners are now in the driving seat when it comes to choosing suppliers and tradespeople to carry out work in their homes. They carry out research on the Internet following which they seek vetted companies to quote. Nearly 65% of online enquiries are processed through Quotatis and on to its subscribers.'

Reginox launches grand designs on Stand No. H14, Hall 18

Reginox will be launching a number of its most innovative and design-led products to date.

On display for the first time will be the company's new Texas range of stainless steel sinks, the result of innovative new manufacturing techniques developed by Reginox, enabling designs that would previously have required welding to be pressed.

Texas reflects the current trend for deeper bowls featuring angular lines softened by subtle curves, with its simple and uncluttered look ensuring that it will be the focal point of any modern and stylish kitchen. All of the sinks in the range have a small 10mm radius in each corner, resulting in a uniform and minimalist design, and feature an unusual square waste. They are available in a choice of three sizes.

Reginox will also be launching two new additions to its popular RF 500 range of higher-end stainless steel sinks, a collection which has witnessed increasing popularity amongst discerning homeowners seeking esoteric design within the kitchen.

The new RF 700S single bowl and RF 750S 1.5 bowl both feature the progressive geometric finish that has become synonymous with the RF 500 range, but with the added advantage of a sleek integrated stainless steel drainer.

Suitable for installation in solid surfaces, such as wood, granite or stainless steel, into which they can be seamlessly integrated for a clean and modern look, the new sinks retail from £552.00 and will enable even the smallest kitchen to benefit from undisputed style without compromising on space.

The company will also be introducing the latest addition to its Regi-Granite range of sinks, the Adriatico. A stunning granite sink that would suit both modern and older-style kitchens alike, the Adriatico combines an angular bowl with a minimalist drainer featuring simple straight lines that perfectly complement the sink's understated design.

Available in five colours, Adriatico comes as a single bowl, 1.5 bowl or 1.75 bowl.

Smart Systems: Stand G16, Hall 18

New Internet-based quoting and ordering system free to sponsored retailers

Popular business management software developer to the KBB Industry, Smart Systems, has confirmed its attendance at KBB 2010 where it will be launching the revolutionary KBBConnect. This is an Internet based quoting and ordering system, free to sponsored retailers.

Smart Systems software has been constantly developing over the last 10 years until it has now reached a level of functionality and sophistication that enables it to run a KBB company's entire business processes. However, the development team at Smart realised that there was a need to satisfy the more basic requirements of quoting and ordering for those companies just dipping their toes into the world of IT.
KBBConnect allows a retailer to use just one system to pull together all the constituent products and prices for a Kitchen, Bathroom or Bedroom project without the need to move from one manufacturer's online ordering site to another.

Once all the elements have been assembled, a customer quotation is produced and then, without the need for data re-entry, orders are automatically produced and emailed to all the product suppliers. To make life even easier, KBBConnect can import data from all the major CAD systems and be taught how to recognise the generic elements in a drawing and covert them to supplier specific products with the correct coding and prices. Confusion over discounts is eradicated by the supplier controlling these directly and the retailer is in charge of his margins.

Prices and product data are maintained online by the suppliers themselves which means that KBBConnect should be able to offer the most accurate data of any Business Management or CAD systems currently available. The screens are clear and uncluttered and learning to use the system takes only a matter of minutes.

Accuracy, legibility and the potential to feed orders directly into their internal systems provides suppliers with major cost savings; likewise, retailers benefit through time saving and increased profitability.
“We believe that KBBConnect is a landmark in the evolution of IT in our industry," says Charles Kovacik, Development Director at Smart Systems. "By making this software freely available to all sponsored retailers, there is not a single company, no matter how basic their needs, that cannot hugely benefit by using this technology.”

A rapidly growing number of manufacturers have already endorsed KBBConnect which is being made freely available to all their sponsored retailers.

2020 Fusion: Stand number K44, Hall 17

Fusion version 17 set for lift off at KBB 2010

Setting new standards for kitchen and bathroom design software, 2020 Fusion is set to launch the latest version of its innovative Fusion CAD software at KBB 2010. With more than 50 new features, version 17 of this market-leading software now encompasses an array of new features that customers have been requesting to make the product more user-friendly than ever before.

Providing a complete design solution from initial client contact through to aftersales management, the eagerly anticipated Fusion version 17 has an abundance of new features and enhancements to make the entire design process even more simple and effective.

Key new features of Fusion version 17 include a display unit list available on graphical views and an Advanced Add Palette Filter, which can be applied against any combination of unit name, order code, description, dimensions and handing, making it simple to locate a specific unit or a range of units to meet the requirements entered.

Using version 17 designers can also create virtual guided tours of a customer's room design based on specific saved view points in a room which are then be manipulated to form frames of a ‘movie', which can either be viewed in Fusion or saved to disc for customers to take away with them.

In previous versions, the Perspective and Visualise views were restricted meaning that if a viewing point was set outside of the room only the back face of the wall could be seen. With version 17 users can now opt to automatically hide the relevant walls and determine how units placed on these walls will be displayed.

Changes have also been implemented to make it much simpler for designers to provide print previews of predefined worktops, tiling and installations to supply to installers. What was previously a lengthy process can now be accomplished in a few clicks of the button.

Kitchen and bathroom designers can see the benefits of Fusion version 17 software first-hand and take advantage of the special show discounts for new and existing customers on the 2020 Technologies stand.

Vasco: Stand number EH88

Less water, more heat

Vasco, the international designer radiator brand, will exhibit at KBB in March under the umbrella company name of The Heating Company. Visitors will be able to experience the very latest in radiator technology – stunning architectural designs in aluminium to provide high-tech and sustainable heating solutions, which will be on show for the first time in the UK.

Using only a 1/5th of the water required by conventional radiators but providing 15% more heat output, the new range offers low energy usage and comfortable heat for the homes of both today and tomorrow. With immediate effect, three Vasco models are available in the UK in the new aluminium design: Bryce, Alu-Zen and Zaros.

The three latest aluminium designs will take centre stage. Inspired by nature, the gently ridged surface of Bryce echoes the eroded limestone and sandstone formations of Bryce Canyon in the US. This elegant and intricate design is made possible thanks to the malleability of aluminium and has already been the recipient of several awards including the coveted reddot, Design Plus and iF product design awards.

The soft lines of Alu-Zen offer a new design for a new decade. The flat profile with rounded edges is accentuated by optional towel rails which form functional hoops around the body of the radiator. Aluminium is the perfect material to provide sustainable heating and lightness of material.

With simple lines and an attractive price-point, Zaros is a back-to-basics new design that can blend effortlessly into any space and offers all the benefits of Vasco's aluminium technology.

Further new designs in steel will also be on parade including Niva Soft; a flat, smooth fronted radiator with gently rounded sides providing a soft, contemporary look.

The compact but perfectly formed 3 x 3m stand will also accommodate a selection of Vasco's best-selling radiator designs. The versatile Carre with its linear form made from perfectly square tubes of steel is a timeless winner with vertical and horizontal models, a towel radiator version, plus curved, half-round and quarter-round designs. Arche with its elegant, architectural rungs is close to becoming a design classic having been awarded the reddot in 2006 and the Design Plus prize in 2005.

Zip domestic HydroTap range: get up close and personal

Visitors to KBB Birmingham will be able to get up close and personal with the new domestic Zip HydroTap range. Fully functioning HydroTaps will be the main feature of the Zip stand at the show and visitors are encouraged not only to look at the display models but to test them out, too.

Delivering instant boiling and instant chilled filtered water at the touch of a button, the HydroTap has been an unqualified success in the UK since its introduction five years ago, offering maximum convenience for food and drink preparation.

The new line-up of domestic HydroTap products, launched by Zip Heaters (UK), caters for an even wider variety of user needs and installations. New features include smaller under counter base units, and a split system of units to accommodate smaller kitchens and awkward installation scenarios.

All models in the new range feature the iconic HydroTap tap head with integral safety interlock, system function indicators and provision for font mounting. The full line up comprises:

1. A new compact boiling-only product, with an under counter base unit which is 40% smaller than its predecessor, capable of delivering up to 60 cups of boiling water per hour.

2. A new boiling and ambient model, offering a choice of filtered boiling water or filtered water at room temperature for users who prefer non-chilled water. This is also capable of delivering up to 60 cups of boiling water per hour, as well as an unlimited amount of ambient water.

3. A new compact boiling and chilled product which delivers filtered boiling and chilled water and has a base unit some 20% smaller than the original, providing additional storage space above and around it. The unit is capable of delivering 60 cups of boiling water and 85 glasses of chilled water per hour.

4. A new boiling and chilled split system ensures that Zip HydroTap can be accommodated in the smallest or most awkward of kitchens, as it consists of two units that can be sited up to one metre apart, in separate cupboards if required.

The new domestic range is available in a choice of chrome or brushed stainless steel finishes. Special oversize tap levers are also offered for less dexterous users.

“Working display models are the ideal opportunity to experience first hand the benefits of the HydroTap," says David Bradbrook, Marketing Director of Zip Heaters (UK).

"We have listened to feedback from designers and this exciting new domestic range addresses many potential hurdles for specification. The much wider choice of product and price points provides greater opportunities for Kitchen Specialists to capitalise on this developing market sector.”
