Customised Keller kitchen creates perfect contemporary look

Having lived in their large duplex apartment in the town of Lenzie, near Glasgow, for three years, Leigh and David Campbell-Wan decided to reconfigure their kitchen and the adjoining living room to create an open plan layout. With a clear idea of the look and style of kitchen they wanted, the couple was delighted to discover the opportunities that Keller Kitchens provides when creating highly customised and contemporary designs.

The Campbell-Wan's apartment is one of three created within a Victorian villa that dates from 1879 and retains many original period features, including fireplaces, high ceilings and cornicing. With two young children, the existing self-contained kitchen did not suit family life so the decision was taken to open it up by knocking through to the rarely used lounge.

A kitchen company had been recommended to the couple by their builders but Leigh had a very strong vision of what she wanted and, almost at the point of placing an order, decided to search on-line for other manufacturers. She found Keller and Eiger Kitchens of Milngavie, her hometown and, when she visited the showroom, she knew she had found the right kitchen.

Leigh was keen that the units should be discreet and slick and look more like furniture than a conventional kitchen. With this in mind, she chose the Keller GL3000, an ultra matt handleless kitchen in carbon. The handleless design runs not just horizontally but also vertically with the rail colour matched, so that the minimalist look is not disrupted in any way. The result is clean, pure and perfectly contemporary.

The units are arranged in an L shape with an island unit that includes a hob in the centre. One of the challenges was that the ceiling height exceeds 3500 mm but the level of customisation available with Keller meant that this could easily be accommodated with full height and full depth units.

"With the help of Keller and Eiger Kitchens, I've managed to get exactly the look I was hoping for," says Leigh Campbell-Wan. "It's precisely the colour and finish I wanted and the internal fittings are great. I absolutely love the look and feel of the kitchen and the storage is fantastic. We used our own kitchen fitters and our fitter commented that it was the best quality kitchen that he had installed. I'm really happy."
