Wallpaper enthusiasts rejoice. The illusion of wallpaper is now made possible with the new V&A Serenity collection from British Ceramic Tile. A collection of white, textured matt tiles inspired by the V&A's archive of wallpaper designs, V&A Serenity is all about discreet detail, creating a wall covering that's soft, serene and individually personal.
We all love the look of wallpaper. Textured, detailed, patterned... it's a surface covering that adds a new dimension to walls but often it's not suitable for wet rooms or busy areas of the home due to wear and tear. With this new collection of ceramic tiles, people can recreate the same stunning wallpaper effect knowing that the tiles are waterproof, easy to clean and will last for years.
The V&A Serenity collection combines a timeless colour palette with an understated pattern for a look that's fresh and enduring. With each range taking inspiration from the V&A's national collection of historic wallpapers dating back to the late 15th century you can bring a sense of history to the home without overpowering the room. Style meets sensibility.
The collection offers three designs (Larkspur, Star Trellis and Quatrefoil) with patterns ranging from a classic geometric to elegant foliage. Available in a versatile 25 x 50cm size with a unique matt texture, each detailed range adds depth and perspective to walls.
Larkspur features a foliate pattern of spiralling leaves taken from the wallpaper 'Larkspur', originally designed by Arts and Crafts designer William Morris in 1872.
Star Trellis recreates a sophisticated wallpaper effect in the home. The ornate design is adapted from a sample of wallpaper called 'Star Trellis' from a 19th century pattern book.
Quatrefoil freshens up interiors, and is based on a small-scale wallpaper pattern make in Britain in the 18th Century.
Claire O'Brien, head of design and product at British Ceramic Tile says: "White walls are a design classic; a blank canvas on which to build. What really works with this new collection is the matt finish with detailed pattern. Walls appear clean and fresh in their styling but the intricate design makes it all the more interesting.
"The tiles give the same look of wallpaper but the wall covering won't be at risk of damage. Larkspur in the bathroom with white sanitary ware, wooden accessories and some glorious green foliage would really bring to life the pattern and inspiration behind the design."
