Soapbox: Brexit needs a swift resolution to bring back stability

* Soapbox-Yvonne.jpgBathroom Manufacturers Association CEO Yvonne Orgill calls for a swift cross-party solution to bring an end to the Brexit uncertainty, as Theresa May enters into talks to find a deal that Parliament will support.

"Unprecedented is a word that has been used a lot over the last weeks concerning Brexit. It seems that each new day in politics brings more unprecedented events, with the latest being the huge rejection of Theresa May's Brexit deal, followed by the no confidence vote which the government survived.

The only thing we know for sure right now is that it is not clear what happens next and this is a very unstable position for business. The uncertainty, continued delays and lack of clarity makes it very hard for manufacturers and retailers to plan ahead and make decisions.

Some of the possible scenarios could lead to total chaos; a general election for example would leave the country totally rudderless for weeks and with European elections also coming up, this could mean more delays.

The best possible outcome for business is a swift resolution to the deadlock. If Theresa May can secure a cross party solution that can be taken back to the EU, then we may get a deal and have some certainty about what will happen after 29th March."
