FIRA-CMA expands testing capacity

Following unprecedented demand, FIRA's Hong Kong testing facility - FIRA-CMA Testing Services, has expanded its capacity for furniture testing.

Five additional testing machines manufactured by FIRA in the UK, have been delivered, installed and commissioned by FIRA's Paul Greenbank.

FIRA's testing facility in Hong Kong, offered in partnership with CMA Testing, is ideally placed to meet the demands of FIRA customers for testing furniture close to the source of manufacture in Asia. It saves retailers, importers and specifiers the time and costs involved in shipping test samples from Asia. Also, for local manufacturers, it offers an invaluable first step towards exporting to new markets in the UK, Europe and beyond.

FIRA-CMA offers structural testing of chairs, tables and beds, as well as flammability, performance and chemical testing of fabrics and foams. All of the testing carried out at the Hong Kong testing centre is to the same high standard as that carried out in the UK.

FIRA furniture testing ensures that furniture products are safe, legal and fit-for-purpose. With its potential to save huge sums of money involved in rectifying, withdrawing or replacing products, pre-market testing has clear benefits for all sectors of the furniture industry including manufacturers, importers, retailers and specifiers alike.

FIRA-CMA Director, Phil Reynolds, says: "We are very pleased at the success of this new venture. Demand has been high, and in response we have invested heavily in increasing capacity to ensure that we meet our clients' needs - offering excellent testing and fast turnaround.

"As we see demand grow, we are fully committed to expanding the service to meet demand, and also expanding the capabilities of the laboratory into new areas in the future."
