* Astro.jpgA British lighting designer and manufacturer received a Royal visit last week. Astro Lighting was presented with the Queen's Award for Enterprise in International Trade by Her Majesty the Queen's representative, The Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Lord Petre, on 24th July.

It is not the first time Astro has received the Royal seal of approval; lights from its bathroom wall-light range were used in the Goring Hotel, London, where the Duchess of Cambridge spent the night before her wedding.

* Astro-presentation.jpgThe hard working and innovative team members at Astro celebrated their fantastic achievement with canapes and drinks and were joined by a host of civic and business guests including Liz Basing, International Trade Director, UK Trade & Investment - East of England; Robert Halfon MP; Jonathan Douglas-Hughes OBE DL, Vice Lord Lieutenant; Malcolm Morley, Chief Executive, Harlow Council and Councillor Linda Pailing, Chairman, Harlow Council.

The Award, which is the UK's highest business accolade, was announced on 21st April, the Queen's birthday, and acknowledges Astro for its outstanding and continuous achievement resulting in sustainable growth. Astro is the only company in Essex to receive a Queen's Award this year.

Managing Director, John Fearon, was delighted to receive the award from Lord Petre, and had attended the Queen's Reception at Buckingham Palace the night before where he was congratulated by Her Majesty the Queen personally. "I am extremely proud to receive this prestigious Award," he said. "It recognises the hard work and expertise of the Astro team in the UK and abroad and everyone is looking forward to celebrating the result of this."

James Bassant, Design Director, commented: "It is an honour to be recognised for our commitment to innovative design and high-quality manufacture which allows Astro to compete on a worldwide scale."

Stuart Grant, Chief Operating Officer, said: "Astro Lighting has achieved outstanding growth in the global lighting design industry and this award gives us the opportunity to celebrate and highlight the expertise and innovative work of all those involved."

Founded in 1997 by John Fearon and James Bassant (Design Director), this local business has proven to be a great British success story, earning a reputation for innovative designs and high quality manufacture, and has fast become a world-wide supplier to the hospitality and high-end residential sectors. Astro has produced double-digit growth with sales up 31% for the last financial year. Turnover this year is expected to reach £12m.
