Last chance to apply for £150,000 high street challenge prize

Towns and city centres have until Friday 31st January to apply for the Revive & Thrive Challenge which aims to bring people and businesses together to breathe new life into their high street.

The Revive & Thrive Challenge will provide a package of prizes to the winning town or city to help residents bring their high street ideas to life. Entrants must suggest a way of connecting the different elements of their high street so that it engages residents and businesses throughout the year. The Challenge winner will work with a team of retail, branding and street cleaning experts to bring the project to life.

The Challenge is supported by the Historic Towns Forum (HTF), Association of Town and City Management (ATCM), Essential Retail, and The British Independent Retailers Association (BIRA).

Guy Douglas, Programme Manager of ATCM, and one of the Challenge judges, comments: "There has never been a more important time for all sizes of towns and city districts, and their independent businesses, to reach out and use the variety of tools now on offer. Revive & Thrive have assembled an impressive 'town centric services' toolbox. By offering this as a prize, R&T has galvanised many towns into showing what they currently are proud of and what they might achieve with a little extra help. I look forward to being inspired in my role as part of the judging panel."

Mark Barnes, founder of Revive & Thrive explains: "An engaged and connected community has the power to bring about change in bringing people together to preserve and protect their town, city or high streets. This is why the Revive & Thrive Challenge can make such a difference. It is an action-led project which is driven in a commercial manner and designed to complement and not compete with the work of Local Authorities and other organisations that depend on public money."

This prize will be awarded to the winning applicant who can describe their vision for a connected community and how this would benefit all aspects of a town centre especially with regard to retail.

The prize is in the form of consultancy / support and products to the value of £150,000 and there is no cash alternative. The winning applicant could be a Local Authority or similar organisation with responsibility for town/city centres or it could be a local retailer or resident who wants to see their town centre thrive once again. The deadline for applications is 31st January 2014 with the final of the Challenge taking place at the Retail Business Technology Expo in Earls Court, London on 12th March 2014.
