Screwfix insight backs up FMB's research

* Andrew-Livingston_Screwfix.jpgCommenting on yesterday's report from the Federation of Master Builders, which revealed that nearly a third of UK homeowners are set to spend £6 billion on property upgrades in the next three years, Andrew Livingston, CEO of Screwfix, said:

"Our insight from tradesmen echoes today's research by the Federation of Master Builders into the amount of work homeowners are planning to carry out on their home over the next three years.

"At Screwfix, we carry out a monthly survey to find out how the nation's plumbers, electricians, builders, carpenters and other tradesmen are faring. We've seen business and economic confidence within our customers hit record highs in the last few months (+40% compared to the -40% we recorded when we initiated the measure in 2008) with the scores having consistently risen since the start of 2012.

"Trade customers claim they are almost all currently in work, the majority already with more to come, and in August we saw a record low 2% telling us they had no work on at all. Looking forward, more than one in four say they are submitting more quotes than this time last year and more than half (58%) of them believe business will improve for them over the next 12 months.

"Also like the FMB, we are recognising and rewarding the best in the business through our Britain's Top Tradesman Award - our annual nationwide search where we commend tradesmen and women who provide exceptional standards of service to their customers."

Screwfix is part of Kingfisher, Europe's leading home improvement retail group and the third largest in the world.
