New iKBBI consumer protection insurance to launch

* ikkbi.jpgAs part of The Installation Standards Partnership (iSP) initiative, the Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installers (iKBBI) is in the process of agreeing terms with a leading provider of consumer protection insurance to introduce a mandatory policy for retailers to ultimately protect their customers and installers in the event of a financial collapse.

"We have seen many retailers over recent years, regrettably, fall into financial difficulty and we now believe that that mandatory insurance to protect customers and their installer is needed," explains iKBBI founder Damian Walters.

"This will of course require the cooperation of the industry, but we will only be working with retailers in the future that share our vision and view on this subject."

Whilst similar policies are in place already, the iKBBI is working on a solution that includes the original installer as part of the consumer solution, which will not only provide additional support to the consumer, but for the first time will also offer some protection to the installer.

"As recent events with the collapse of Mark Two has demonstrated, it is the installer that remains the fall-guy, where in actual fact these professionals should be playing a significant role in resolving incomplete or scheduled installations."

An announcement regarding the policy and finer details is expected later this month.
